In Think & Write, students build the skills required to excel in Smart Writing.
Teacher Brandon will guide students through a series of writing exercises meant to sharpen their command of the written word. Based on stories and articles from class, students will learn to write persuasive, analytical, compare/contrast, informative, refutation, debate, and creative essays.
Students will learn to think and write critically about literature, science, social studies, and current events through readings, discussion, and weekly scaffolded writing assignments in which Tr. Brandon demonstrates the formulas for tackling all types of writing.
Each week students will rewrite their essays based on Tr. Brandon’s feedback as well as practice using vocabulary from the texts in their writing.
At the end of each unit, students will pick sides, write arguments and rebuttals, and participate in a debate.
Alongside reading, writing, and debate, grammar and vocabulary will also be studied, and there will be exams throughout the course.
Students that complete this course can confidently move up to Smart Writing.

Class Goals
