Advanced Writing & Rhetoric

In Advanced Writing & Rhetoric, writing and debate students move entirely beyond structural proficiency to master the arts of persuasion, argumentation and composition.

Advanced Writing & Rhetoric is directly modeled after Western university Writing Centers, where Teacher Brandon began his career as a writing teacher.

Rhetoric is the ultimate intellectual asset not only for elite high school prep and university success, but also for future leadership in business and real-world civic life. Now that AI can generate superficial prose, a student’s ability to articulate complex arguments in their unique voice, use persuasive techniques, and evoke emotion is the single best way to stand out and thereby AI-proof their future.

Throughout each unit, Tr. Brandon records personalized video text diagnostics for each student. This allows parents and students to review direct individual feedback while actively studying the peer critiques of the entire class, fostering an authentic collegiate workshop environment right here in Taipei.

In addition to weekly Blue-Book style writing sessions, several times throughout the semester, students will study a complex topic, prepare written arguments and rebuttals, and participate in an in-class debate judged by Tr. Brandon, an active NSDA debate judge since 2019.

Students will also learn and be tested on 80 high-frequency academic words per semester to prepare them for international exams.

Students who complete this course build a decisive academic advantage over their peers and graduate with the intellectual independence to confidently navigate a rapidly changing world.
