Beginner Writing: G4-6

Does your child read the classics?

Help give your child the confidence that comes with “getting” these great writers.

In Beginner Writing, students read works by Mark Twain, Leo Tolstoy, Isaac Asimov, H.P. Lovecraft, Kate Chopin, O. Henry, Edgar Allan Poe, C.S. Lewis, Anton Chekhov, Ray Bradbury, Oscar Wilde, Flannery O’Connor, Kurt Vonnegut, and others.

Brain studies from Michigan State University show that reading the classics improves attention, trains cognitive flexibility, and encourages students to use new brain regions.

Students will also develop the skills to analyze a text and support their arguments with evidence – skills that ADL prides itself on.

These skills are also what the best American universities expect to see in prospective students.

Students will have an advantage over their peers if they are familiar with these writers before they encounter them in school.
