In Smart Writing, for advanced elementary students, students will learn Tr. Brandon’s step-by-step system for writing structured essays.
Since 2020, Tr. Brandon has taught this system to students across Taiwan, making Smart Writing his most popular class. Students will learn how to critically think about a literary or current event text and support their arguments with different types of evidence, skills that ADL prides itself on.
Smart Writing includes weekly writing, teacher feedback, and grammar practice. Students also learn advanced-level vocabulary directly from the texts they read and are tested on these words throughout the semester. Once a semester, students will debate each other on the semester’s current event topic.
Students that complete this course will not only be ready to enroll in Tr. Brandon’s advanced writing courses, but they will also have an advantage over their peers, most of whom do not receive such instruction in schools in Taiwan.
These skills are also what the best American programs and universities expect to see in prospective students.
