Rising Writers

In Rising Writers, an advanced writing course for students who have already mastered the frameworks of Tr. Brandon’s Smart Writing course, Tr. Brandon helps writers move beyond formulaic writing and think more deeply about more advanced literary and informational texts. Students will learn to write more precisely and sound more mature and persuasive.

Now more than ever thanks to AI, students can often produce writing that looks good, but most don’t truly understand how to generate strong ideas, how to judge whether a claim makes sense, or how to recognize weak logic, vague language, or shallow analysis.

Tr. Brandon will teach the writing and editing framework that he uses when he edits his own writing. Throughout each unit, he will model how to approach a new essay question; craft thesis statements; find strong evidence, recognize bias, weak logic, and unclear thinking; and revise writing until it shines.

Students will also learn how to analyze texts in order to produce better writing. Texts include literature; articles about science, psychology, and current events; and high-level nonfiction written for educated readers.

Students write by hand during class while Tr. Brandon provides live demonstrations and feedback.

By taking Rising Writers, students will build the analytical mindset that Western universities expect of their students.
